Reducing your energy bill

Aura Power works closely with commercial electricity consumers with high power requirements, such as industrial facilities. In the UK, we have partnered with Thrive Renewables to offer a fully-funded, battery-based energy storage solution, which will deliver energy-bill savings along with the potential to unlock additional revenues from ancillary services provided by the battery system.

How does it work?

By placing a battery storage system on your side of the electricity meter, we can decouple the power consumed by your facility from the power drawn from the electricity grid, without interfering with your operations on site. This enables us to reduce the burden of non-commodity costs, including use of system charges, which can be a significant component of your energy costs. We can capture additional revenues by providing ancillary services to National Grid. At no cost to you, we will fund and manage the development, installation and operation of the system.

Why batteries?

Lithium-Ion technology is the most cost effective and commercially mature of the energy storage systems available.  By connecting a small-scale project on the host-side of the electricity meter, we can use the ultra-fast response times of the latest technology cells to manage power demand and provide ancillary services.

What are the benefits of having a battery system on my site?
It provides a free way to moderate your peak energy charges whilst earning extra revenue from National Grid

Do I have to pay anything?
No, we undertake a feasibility study and if we move ahead, we will cover all costs to design, build, operate and decommission the system at the end of its service life

Is there risk to my existing site operations?
The battery storage system reduces your risk by helping to stabilise your power demand, and can even provide backup power in the event of an outage. We use top-tier component suppliers and experienced installation personnel, to ensure that power flow to site is not interrupted during installation or system maintenance operations.

How long will this take?
Once we have signed the contract, we order the equipment, conduct further site surveys, and then schedule and supervise the installation. This process will take on average 3-6 months depending on component lead-time.

What is the process and what do we have to sign?
In order for us to assess your site, you will need to share with us your previous energy bills. We may also need to speak with the local network operator to understand the grid connection. We will use this information to determine the correct size of the battery system, and provide you with an indicative proposal illustrating the potential revenue you will receive. The final stage is for us to sign a contract, after which we will order the equipment and work with you to schedule the installation.

How much space does the battery system take up?
The exact size depends on the size of the system, but our battery solution is fully modular and containerised, and can be located inside or outside. A 500kWh system would have a total footprint of around 20 m2. We will work with you to find a suitable location at your facility.

Is my site suitable for a battery system?
We will happily assess any commercial or industrial power consumer, however we typically require that you:

  • Have at least 500kW of average on-site load
  • Plan for your facility to be operating for at least another 10 years
  • Pay for your own electricity usage
